“Buy
truth, and do not sell it;
buy
wisdom, instruction, and understanding.”
~Proverbs 23:23 (NRSV)
The person most interested in
telling the truth and living by the truth and letting the truth permeate into
their minds and hearts will be blessed by God. We worship God, only, when we
worship in Spirit and in truth (John 4:24)—living truthfully.
The blessings of God regarding
truth, especially as they intercede in each of our lives, are provident in the
fight God makes of our situations. We have not just a God, but, in God, an
avenger.
Many harrowing truths that we
assimilate, even as others appear favoured against us, will ultimately turn out
for us. Living truthfully, committed and wholeheartedly devoted to truth, is
our best strategy; it is the eternal perspective.
Honouring And Valuing The Truth
There is a constancy of hardship
in our way of living. We defend ourselves. We necessarily do this in a world we
find often attacks us; whether we are on the roads, in the shops, at our schools,
in our workplaces, in our families, or even of ourselves.
Although we don’t always react to
these feelings of attack, within us we are ready to deny many things. Our
survival depends on it, or it seems that way. We may have an image to maintain,
and besides, can we always afford to live truthfully?
It’s a serious temptation to skirt
the truth, and, truth be told, we do so on many occasions.
Honouring and valuing the truth,
however, doesn’t mean we have to sell out on our dignity. It simply means
holding to the truth in faith that, by doing so, God will honour us by the way
things turn out, eventually.
Buy Truth – No Defence And No Attack
When we buy truth we have no need
of defence and no need of attack, for both defence and attack reside in
different markets.
Aggression and submission are the
negotiations of that other market. The market we prefer, though, has us
negotiating for truth by truth. And our negotiations are by faith.
As we venture into purchasing
truth we make our purchases by what truth promises, never by what it delivers,
for in faith we find what it delivers. We must trust by our investments in
truth. We play a slow market, but one that is most assuredly sure.

When truth is our top priority God
fights for us. When life is lived truthfully we have no need of defence or
attack. God is our avenger. All we are required to do is abide in the truth.
