LORD, You Know Me

“O Lord, you have searched me and known me.
You know when I sit down and when I rise up;
you discern my thoughts from far away.
You search out my path and my lying down,
and are acquainted with all my ways.”
~Psalm 139:1-3 (NRSV)
Proof of God comes in many mysterious ways, but these will only be discerned by the unsuspicious; those curious enough to enquire about the construction of their conscious and unconscious psyches and their hearts, for how they think and feel.
The psalmist offers a burgeoning example. Because it seems that we know ourselves, and that we can’t fool ourselves, we can know that our consciences are God-ordained and God-screened. If we don’t feel a Higher Power checking on us, on our thoughts and feelings, and certainly by what we do, we’re seriously deluded.
This checking process occurs by our honesty or dishonesty with ourselves, for nobody is perfectly honest. This is because nobody is perfectly courageous or absolutely moral.
God Searches, Discerns, And Is Acquainted With Us
To the atheist and agnostic, as well as to all the religious souls, notwithstanding their idea of God or spirituality, or denomination, God searches, discerns, and is acquainted with us all. We know this by our common human psychology. It’s in our genome.
Why do we feel guilty? Why do we feel shamed? Even those that refuse these feelings, and many would they be, cannot refuse the impact of denying feelings at an unconscious level. We cannot escape God’s enquiry. The inscrutable Lord scrutinises us, and that is the way of life for us to accept. Arrogant refusal does us no good.
Dealing With The Inevitable
Obedience is the portent of a knowledgeable and sophisticated humanity. People who obey the laws of the land, nature, and the ways of life, especially regarding relationships, because they want to, have already accepted they cannot escape God.
They have learned to deal with the inevitable. And their lives have progressed onward in growth as a result. They are blessed with peace and joy and spiritual possession that cannot be bought.
Accepting God is the Maker and Governor of our psychological beings is accepting the most basic fact of our existence. From this vantage point we’re free to explore life, given the boundaries from which we can never escape.
And knowing God’s design for a harmonious creation, we can only praise God for the wisdom and love with which creation’s blueprint has been designed. God has bounded us in safety.

Our loving God searches us and knows us, whether we believe in the Lord or not. Our psychology is the proof. When we accept the inevitable, only then will we grow. It does us no good to refuse God.
