The psalmist’s intimate confession: “Deep calls to deep in the roar of your waterfalls; all your waves and breakers have swept over me.” ~Psalm 42:7 (NIV).
As the human spirit descends to the depths so, too, does the Deep Spirit call to us there. Only there will we know the special nuances of God—just how enamoured about us the Lord is, and how fervently God wishes to lift and restore us.
The psalmist, above, has wisely submitted to the reproach of his feelings.
He understands the character of the depths—further and deeper we tend to go; but for a purpose.
The deeper intimacy of God can’t be redeemed until we’ve been there—seeking desperately the shelter of the Almighty.
God calls to us at the site of our depths. We are taken there, and without enquiring of the Lord, we cannot know why. Taken to our depths, to the point of submission, there God finds us; and we, him!
