Five Aspects of Forgiveness – Part 2 – Memory

“For I will forgive their wickedness,
And remember their sins no more.”
~Hebrews 8:12 (NIV).
Memory and forgiveness are always inextricably attached to each other in life; we cannot ‘get’ to forgiveness without attending to our memories. Here’s a worthy quote just now:
“If we let go of the pain in the memory we can have the memory, but it doesn’t control us.”
~Alexandra Asseily.
This is a sweeping statement of much vaunted power. Taking harness of this in the flow of our lives will, inevitably, lead us to freedom—the troubled memory vanquished.
The Process of ‘Letting Go’
This is a sharp paradox and it can almost defy belief—but, still, let us be listening. We cannot truly let go of our pain unless we fight with it; to understand it, to reconcile it—to make some sense of it. This, in some ways, is a journey without end.
But never doubt this; the ‘shape’ of the pain will change. And miraculous healing will become us in our fullest engagement in this process.
And in this, for us, God will have established the New Covenant concept highlighted in the Hebrews 8:12 message—we will forgive the wickedness of our transgressors and remember [the pain] their sins [caused us] no more.
