We don’t feel this all the time by any stretch of the imagination, or even often, but at times we feel we’re zinging along in life—all things well, all activities going productively; all relationships going swimmingly! And then, for a time, life goes pear-shaped... but just not now.
I had a time recently where I just felt like I was in the lap of God’s will—just for that time I felt his blessing pressing gently, yet firmly, into me. It was fantastic and exhilarating! It was a pleasure (more than a pleasure, even) to be alive. If “bliss,” as a word or concept, could adequately describe the mental, emotional and spiritual status quo then I was right there.
But, we all know, what goes up must come down.
We ride the crests with comfort and joy as they come; we don’t cringe at the thought that they’re fleeting—if we did we’d need to also remember that the tough times are also fleeting in the overall scheme of things.
I love to play with the words that intuit bliss and that feeling when I’m just “on song.” It’s an all-attending, subsuming time, shrouded in the glory and splendour of life.
And how are we to propagate this sense of inordinate blessing? We just simply “be” in its presence; we think on God and we praise him for his goodness and grace. But we also predict, without sadness, for ordinary drudgery to unfold eventually, even next hour possibly.
In this blissful time we can still yet conceive the normality and its returning—we stay thankful though. Why would we intentionally limit the passage and duration of this blessed time?
Being “on song” is a wonderful experience we simply want more of. And the beautiful thing is there’re no limits to the scope of bliss here with God; none whatsoever!
